  • This course is designed to familiarize the student with career opportunities within the racquet sports industry and the qualifications and responsibilities associated with them. The course will provide fundamental knowledge of clay court maintenance and operations; and the traits and characteristics related and necessary to be successful in the tennis industry, through online class lectures and discussions, and assigned student research/projects.

    Course Learning Objectives:
    • Students will be prepared with the necessary skills for facility clay court maintenance, care, and operations measured by classroom lectures and assignments.
    • Students will learn the skills and have an understanding of a Racquet Sports Professional's successful role and each sport’s relationship within the Racquet Sports Industry.
    • To prepare Students with time management skills.
    • To prepare Students with resume construction and presentation skills.
    • Students will understand how to develop their own Racquet Sports Industry Brand and cultivate and build an industry network.

  • This course is designed to initially prepare students for their Summer Industry Residency Lab. The course will provide fundamental knowledge of lesson plan development, teaching court management and drill techniques through class lectures, independent study, and self on-court practice simulations. This course will prepare students with the methods of teaching they will encounter as USPTA and/or PTR teaching professionals.

    Course Learning Objectives:
    • To provide students with the demonstration of various racquet grips and the pros/cons of each grip.
    • Students will become familiar with various on-court feeding techniques associated with on-court instruction.|
    • Students will have a foundation in principles of coaching, behavior, teaching, and physical training, measured through online lectures and classroom presentations.
    • Students will have an understanding of Coach Youth Tennis Skills and Large Group Teaching for effective court management.
    • Students will be able to design and submit an effective lesson plan.
    • Students will be able to demonstrate tennis drills for a variety of ages and skill levels that consist of both live and deadball drill techniques, measured through specific drill exercises.

  • This course deals with the fundamentals of basic tournament operation and management principles for both Professional and Recreational events. Topics covered include tournament preparation and marketing, and an introduction to Serve Tennis Tournament Software applications. Equipment customization, frame characteristics, stringing and gripping basics are discussed. The course will provide a fundamental knowledge of racquet facility amenities and court structure, measured through online class lectures and assigned student research.

    Course Learning Objectives:
    • To prepare students with knowledge and hands-on experience of Racquet Customization as a revenue generator for future tennis industry employers, measured by lecture assignments, and hands-on trials.
    • Students will understand various facility designs and space requirements for multi-racquet facilities.
    • Students will be introduced to USTA Serve Tennis software applications for conducting sanctioned and non-sanctioned tournaments.
    • Students will understand pre-planning, current, and post-preparations for executing a successful tournament.

  • Topics covered include: types of racquet events and the planning, preparation, and marketing of those events; programming for Adult and Junior activities; and the financial management and budgeting for club events. The course will provide a fundamental knowledge of facility operations and the current technology and software options available for the successful implementation of events while gaining a comprehension of a racquet professional’s duties at a racquet facility through class lectures and assigned student research.

    Course Learning Objectives:
    • To prepare students to administrate racquets-related club events and programs, measured by the development, marketing, administration, and execution of a functional racquets-driven event.
    • Students will understand the different types of racquets events and operational budgets, measured through a comparison of various types of event budgets.
    • Students will understand how to program for Adult and Junior activities, work with leagues, and establish an annual calendar of events.
    • To introduce Students to the popular software alternatives for ease of event execution.

  • This course is an introduction to advanced coaching techniques. Students will be exposed to the latest terms, teaching techniques, and theories of stroke mechanics. Students will improve both their analytical and presentation skills for progressive teaching.

    • Stroke Analysis and Corrective Techniques
    • Modern Teaching Techniques (recreational and high performance)
    • Introduction to Advanced/High-Performance Junior Development Techniques
    • Cardio Tennis Designation Introduction

    Course Learning Objectives:
    • To prepare students to effectively teach private and group lessons.
    • Students will understand Modern Style Teaching Techniques.
    • Students will understand stroke analysis techniques and how to identify corrective techniques, measured by the Private and Group Lesson Exams.
    • To introduce Students to successful advanced and high-performance platforms for junior players.
    • Introduction to best Cardio Tennis practices.

  • This course will offer a series of (5) five Racquet Industry Professional Seminars presented by Racquets Industry Leaders. The seminars will focus on relevant topics for the Racquet Sports Professional. These topics include: Understanding Junior Player Parents; Extreme Customer Service; Coaching in a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Environment; Differences and Similarities in Resorts, Country Clubs, Municipalities and Public Facilities, and Commercial Clubs; Racquet Fitness Training and Testing. There is a focus on Racquet Sports Industry Career Pathways including the multiple Facility Management Companies that exist today.

    • Series of Professional Seminars presented by (5) Racquets Industry Leaders
    • Fundamentals of Effective Interviews including video interviews
    • 10 Minute presentations of CRSE interviews
    • Understanding of Career Pathways including Management Companies

    Course Learning Objectives:
    • Students will be introduced to (5) Critical subjects that each Racquet Sports Professional should experience.
    • Each Student will select an alternative racquet industry topic and prepare a 5-10 minute Ted-Talk style presentation and to present to the class.
    • To prepare Students with the fundamentals and skills of effective interviewing.
    • To execute a successful interview measured by completing an assigned interview with a CRSE graduate.
    • To present a 5-10 minute verbal summary to the class of their CRSE graduate interview.

  • This course deals with the management of racquet sports facilities as a business. Topics covered include: department budgeting and financial management; facility management software options; retail pro shop budgeting and best operational practices. Other strategies include working with Committees / Boards / Owners / Management Companies.

    Course Learning Objectives:
    • To familiarize students with best practices working with types of employers and facility governance.
    • Students will understand Retail Pro Operations through active study of selected Retail Pro Shop operations and their budgets and working with manufacturer sales representatives..
    • Students will understand racquet facility operational budgets, measured through comparison of different types and styles of facility budgets.
    • To familiarize Students with current Racquet Sports Facility Management Software for small and large facilities.

  • This course deals with the Student production of a teaching video. The final product teaching video will serve as a testimony to the Student’s knowledge and presentation of a mechanical stroke, teaching technique, or a stroke analysis of a private or group lesson, and may serve as a supplement to an interview application.

    • Teaching Video Project and Presentations

    Course Learning Objectives:
    • Students will understand select teaching topics and the mechanical steps to produce a teaching video that concentrates on an efficient and effective stroke, a relevant teaching style or technique, or an analysis of a stroke, private or group lesson.
    • Each video should be 4-6 minutes in length and include at least four main ideas or main points that you are conveying to the viewer.
    • Students’ teaching videos should contain graphics and some type of musical background.
    • A written outline should accompany the final product that identifies the four main ideas/points you are trying to convey.
    • All teaching videos will be presented during class time to assist in the growth of each student’s teaching background.

  • This course offers introductory course study and preparation for racquet industry teaching certifications. Course study is provided for USPTA Certifications in Tennis, Pickleball, Platform Tennis, or Padel and for PTR Certifications in Tennis, Pickleball, Platform Tennis, or Padel. An introduction to other racquet sports educational entities include Tennis Industry United Cardio Tennis, University of Florida Director of Racquets, United States Racquet Stringers Association (USRSA) and Certified Racquet Sports Executive (CRSE) Designation.

    • Course study to prepare for USPTA Tennis/Tennis/Pickleball/Padel/Platform Tennis, PTR Tennis/Tennis/Pickleball/Padel/Platform Tennis, Cardio Tennis Instructor Training, US Racquet Stringer Association, UFDOR, CRSE.

    Course Learning Objectives:
    • To prepare students with an understanding of the steps and processes for racquet certifications with major trade associations in the Racquet Industry.
    • To identify other racquet sports certifications that students may elect to pursue.

  • Interview and accept a minimum 400-hour summer industry residency lab at a public, commercial, resort, country club facility, tennis camp, racquet sports industry company or association, while working under a mentoring supervisor.

    *CRSM 401 Industry Residency Portfolio must be submitted at the completion of the summer industry residency.

    • Completion of a comprehensive Summer Industry Residency Lab Portfolio is submitted at the end of the Residency

    Course Learning Objectives:
    • To prepare students with real-life experience in a learning environment.
    • Students will work under the mentorship of a director and will receive real-life tips, coaching, and advice that will ultimately assist the Student during their future tenure in the Racquets Industry.
